Making connections and developing critical skills
Students use various models, diagrams and procedures as they develop and share problem-solving strategies. This encourages flexibility and resourcefulness in thinking and helps students gain confidence and pride in their ability to meet daily challenges.
Teachers provide opportunities for children to learn from each other. By using concrete manipulatives, students develop abstract thinking skills and internalize more complex mathematical concepts. Mental math is essential for success in mathematics and our program encourages children to develop their own math intuition and to trust their instincts.
The program is divided into the following areas:
Patterns and Algebraic Relationships
Number Sense and Operations
Statistics and Probability
Math is taught on a daily basis. Students work independently, in small, or large groups. Technology resources are also regularly integrated within the math program.
