A message from Oakwood Granparents Brenda Fritz, Bunny Wasser, Ken Fritz, and Shelly Steier:
March 10, 2017
Hello Oakwood Grandparents!
We are Brenda, Bunny, Ken and Shelly—some of us saw our children through the Oakwood experience a number of years back, and all of us are now seeing our grandchildren through today’s Oakwood experience. As grandparents who understand that the ties to the next generation only grow stronger as we spend time in their world, we have partnered with the Parent Organization to create the Gorilla Grandparents Group. The GGG (our affectionate name for the group) is a committee whose sole purpose is to develop ways for members to be on campus with their grandchildren, participating in everyday school activities, forming natural partnerships that enhance curricula, and forging ties in the place where they spend a major portion of their day—Oakwood.
We invite all grandparents and special friends to join us! Our first step is to get together on the elementary school campus on April 21 at 10:30am (flyer attached). Please come to hear some of our ideas, such as volunteering to serve lunch on Taco Tuesdays, and share your own! If coming to campus is not possible for you, there will be GGG events around class performances, including Step Up and graduation, making it possible for those who had planned to be in town for these important happenings to also participate in GGG activities. Whether you are local or live in another state, please send your email address to email@example.com so we can keep you updated on events.
At this year’s Kinder and 6th grade Generations Day, Oakwood Headmaster Jim Astman quoted a student who described his relationship with his grandparents like this: “My mom and dad are always telling me to hurry up. My grandma and grandpa always tell me to take my time.”
Come take your time at Oakwood. Spend a few precious moments with your grandchildren and their friends. It’s a hopeful, joyful place, where you are always appreciated, always valued, and always welcome.
Thank you, and we hope to see you around!
