Oakwood High School Mock Trial Team Competes
12/4/2012
Eighty teams from Los Angeles County recently competed in the Mock Trial of a student accused of causing an accident while driving and texting, and then failing to render aid to the victim.
During our first competition we faced a relatively inexperienced public school team and we carried the night. Our defendant was exonerated, and we compiled an impressive margin of victory.
Our second competition was against a polished group of girls from Immaculate Heart, and we were narrowly defeated (51.5% to 48.5%) Lawyer coach and Oakwood parent Michael Goodman and teacher coach Dean Sexton worked with our ninth through twelfth grade lawyers and witnesses after school and on the weekends from the end of September untill the November trial dates.
Both coaches were very impressed with the dedication that our team exhibited in many hours of practice, and the poise they demonstrated in front of real judges in real courtrooms. We also appreciate the active support of our students' parents. We are all looking forward to next year’s competition.
