Athletic Code for Interscholastic Athletic Program

A. CIF rules must be followed in all cases of eligibility, physical examinations, insurance coverage, starting dates, use of school equipment, etc. Each coach has the responsibility to know, to inform team members and parents, and to enforce school and CIF regulations in these matters.

B. Any civil or penal law infraction or conduct by a student athlete that is determined by the head coach and school administration to be detrimental to the athletic program, school, or school community, will result in counseling by the head coach, Principal and Athletic Director with possible suspension.

C. No athlete may quit one sport and turn out for another after the season has begun without the mutual consent of both coaches.

D. A display of unsportsmanlike conduct toward an opponent or official, or use of profanity, will result in counseling by the head coach and possible team or school suspension.

E. Unexcused absences (family trips, doctor appointments, etc.) from scheduled practice or games will result in:

  1. Reduced participation or suspension for one contest following first violation
  2. Suspension for one contest following second violation
  3. Suspension for the remainder of the season following the third violation

F. Theft or malicious destruction of any school or individual’s equipment or property is not to be tolerated.

  1. First offense: The individual will be suspended from the squad for five school days. At the end of this period, following counseling by the head coach, Dean, and athletic Director, a decision regarding further competition will be made.
  2. Second offense: Suspension for the remainder of the season and a referral to the Principal.

G. Completion of the sports season is required in order for the student to be eligible for a letter or other individual or team award. (Exception: injury which limits participation.) No awards shall be given to any student suspended for the remainder of the season for Athletic Code violation.

H. Consistent with school, the use or possession of alcoholic beverages, drugs, narcotics, or hallucinatory agents by athletic participants is prohibited. Violation of this policy will result in dismissal from the team and may be grounds for expulsion from school.

I. Before any suspension provided under these rules shall take effect, the student and parent shall be advised by the head coach of the alleged violation, and the student will have an opportunity to explain or justify the action. If, after such conference, the head coach and the Principal are satisfied that discipline is justified, the student and parent will be notified.

J. The "rules and regulations" of the Athletic Code shall apply to any violations on and off school premises during the season of participation.

K. Students who quit a sport or are dismissed from a team may be suspended from participating in the following sports season as determined by the head coach, Athletic Director, Principal.

L. Student-athletes are responsible for all academic work during their season of sport. Student-athletes are not to expect special consideration (i.e. make-up tests, extensions on papers, etc.) due to their participation in sports. Students are required to maintain a 2.0 grade point average to remain eligible for sports.

M. Seniors are encouraged to visit colleges during fall trip week, the first week of Spring Break, and the first two days of the second week of Spring Break. We recognize seniors may need unforeseeable college visitations in the spring. We will give special consideration regarding trips that are unavoidable. We request that senior notify the athletic department prior to the season of possible conflicts.

N. Additional rules or regulations from the head coach must be cleared by the Principal and the Athletic Director. Any additional rules and regulations must be in writing and submitted to the Principal and Athletic Director.
