admissions alumni support teaching
The open space of the atrium inspired a member of the class of '07 to install this thought provoking sculpture using umbrellas, nylon cord and plastic objects.

Once a week, all secondary school students participate in a program designed to supplement the core curriculum by providing a wide variety of educational opportunities.

The special studies program includes Oakwood's CalArts Program, Core Extension Courses, and the At Large Curriculum.

At Large Curriculum

Many special studies courses are taught by Oakwood faculty, parents, alumni, outside community members and students with faculty sponsors. These include special community service offerings such as Oakwood Students Against Drunk Driving and courses not offered in our standard curriculum, such as Sign Language, Calligraphy, Advertising, Investment Strategies, CPR and Peer Counseling.
Core Extension Courses

Students may choose special studies classes which enrich or extend regular core courses. Courses have included: Dungeons and Dragons, Building a Yert, Tennis, Teen Issues, Television Production, Investing, Anime, Gardening, What's in the News, Self-Defense, and Acting for Women.
