WHAT IS THE 100% IN 100 DAYS ANNUAL GIVING DRIVE?

It is Oakwood School’s annual fundraising drive. During our Annual Giving Drive, we ask every family to make a tax-deductible contribution to both the Annual Fund and the Endowment. Our goal is for 100% of parents to give to these two funds during the 100-day period.

WHEN SHOULD I GIVE?

We ask that you pledge during the 100-day drive, which begins in October. 

WHAT IS THE ANNUAL FUND?

The Annual Fund, together with tuition revenue, covers the actual cost of providing an Oakwood education. Tax-deductible gifts to the Annual Fund are used during the year in which they are given, making an immediate impact on our students. The Annual Fund supports all forms of year-round expenses: teacher salaries, facilities, athletics and programs such as S.T.E.A.M., debate, theater, music, visual arts—any and all programs operated by the school. Our Annual Fund goal is $2.2 million.

WHY SHOULD I GIVE TO THE ANNUAL FUND?

Oakwood depends on the generosity of our community to continue to provide exceptional learning experiences. We are proud of our strong and longstanding tradition of parent participation in the Annual Fund. Last year we reached 98% parent involvement—one of the highest rates among independent schools in our area. Parent involvement is an important measure of our success, and it sends a powerful message to outside funders such as foundations and corporate donors. 

HOW DOES MY ANNUAL FUND DONATION IMPACT OAKWOOD?

Oakwood flourishes because of the Annual Fund! Donations support small class sizes, dedicated teachers, classroom and technology upgrades, a socioeconomically diverse community, and an ever expanding curriculum that allows students to thrive.

WHY DON'T YOU RAISE TUITION INSTEAD OF ASKING FOR GIFTS? 

At Oakwood, we consider fundraising a community-wide responsibility in which we all do our part. Every gift, regardless of size, makes a difference and is an investment in your child’s education and future. And unlike tuition, donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. 

WHAT ARE OAKWOOD'S ANNUAL FUND LEADERSHIP GIVING LEVELS?

Our Leadership Giving program benefits from the generosity of philanthropic leaders who donate at least $7,500 annually.To acknowledge their leadership, these donors are invited to the Headmaster’s Circle Event with the Headmaster and other school leaders. Families who contribute $15,000 or more will be recognized in our Champions’ Circle and invited to a special reception.

WHAT IS THE ENDOWMENT?

Some of our Endowments help generate financial aid that benefits 16% of our students. The principals of Endowments are protected in perpetuity. This allows a portion of the earnings each year to be used to support financial aid while growing the Endowments for future students. 

WHY SHOULD I GIVE TO THE ENDOWMENT?

Oakwood is committed to its purposeful and robust efforts to assure inclusion and socioeconomic diversity by providing financial aid to qualifying families.Endowment donations help us carry out this mission. This year, Oakwood granted over $3.5 million in financial aid, supporting 1 in 6 of our students. Your gifts ensure that an Oakwood education will continue to be available to a vibrant group of students into the future.

WHAT IS THE JAMES ALAN ASTMAN ENDOWMENT FOR TEACHING & LEARNING?

The James Alan Astman Endowment for Teaching and Learning has been established to honor Oakwood's revered Headmaster of 40 years and to sustain Jim's influence on his colleagues' professional growth and development. The Endowment operates in Jim's conviction that an Oakwood education helps young people become who they uniquely are—as students and as human beings—and that teaching and learning must be personal, moral, and reciprocal acts. Teachers who are devoted learners inspire students to be devoted learners. The goal of the Endowment is therefore to help support pedagogy—mission-centered teaching practice—as it strives to be in ever-closer alignment with Oakwood's philosophy and core values. LEARN MORE

WHAT IS THE SPECIAL EVENT?

The Special Event is Oakwood’s annual fundraising gala. This event is a fun and festive one in which our community comes together to raise funds for a great cause. Net proceeds from this year's Oakwood Family Album sponsorships, ticket sales, event donations, and auction purchases benefit the James Alan Astman Endowment for Teaching and Learning. Last year’s Special Event netted $620,000!

WHY ARE AUCTION ITEMS SO IMPORTANT?

The Special Event Auction Committee appreciates your generosity in donating or procuring items for both our Live and Silent Auctions. With your help, we are able to offer rare items and experiences that are not easily accessible, which inspires generous bidding. While very much appreciated, items donated to the Auction do not count toward Annual Fund giving.

WHAT IS THE OAKWOOD FAMILY ALBUM?

The Oakwood Family Album is an Endowment fundraiser that is distributed at the Special Event gala. Each year we publish a book called The Oakwood Family Album showcasing donors’ names, messages, and photos. All sponsors and Special Event attendees receive a copy of this timeless keepsake. It’s a family tradition!

HOW MUCH SHOULD I GIVE?

We ask that each family, in accordance with their capacity, give what they can. All gifts are greatly appreciated and collectively make a significant impact. We ask that you consider Oakwood to be one of your family’s top philanthropic priorities and give to the Annual Fund and Endowment as generously as possible.

WHAT IS A MATCHING GIFT AND HOW CAN I HELP OAKWOOD ACCESS THIS ADDITIONAL FUNDING?

Many companies have matching gift programs that allow you to double or even triple your donation. Please contact us or your HR department or check here to find out if your company matches gifts.

WHAT IS A CAPITAL CAMPAIGN?

Capital Campaigns help meet the school’s growing needs of its students and programs by raising funds to build and renovate facilities. All parents, along with our extended community are encouraged to participate in Capital Campaigns as generously as their means permit. During every family’s time at Oakwood, they will be asked to contribute to a capital project.

HOW DO I MAKE MY GIFT?

To make your gift, please send a check payable to Oakwood School, or your credit card details in the remit envelope enclosed in your letter of request, contribute online at oakwoodschool.org/participation or contact the Advancement Office at 818-732-3062 to contribute by phone or for stock instructions. Contributions made in cash or by money order may be delivered to the Advancement Office on the secondary school campus or either front office.
