  • 6th Grade Community Leadership

In 6th grade, students embrace leadership roles to shape their school community. From mentoring younger students in our kindergarten buddy program to representing Oakwood at events such as prospective parent mornings and community celebrations, 6th graders develop responsibility, confidence, and empathy, preparing them for future success as leaders in middle school and beyond.
  • Secondary Campus Student Designed Projects

While 8th grade students take a community leadership course, all high school students are required to complete a community engagement proposal and demonstrate their commitment to projects connected to specific Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Oakwood secondary students have also volunteered with the following organizations:

    AIDS Walk
    American Cancer Society
    Beads for Life
    Big Sunday

    Genocide Awareness
    Habitat for Humanity
    Human Task Force

  • Senior Projects

After having completed their coursework in May, seniors devote two weeks to pursuing a current interest or experimenting with a new idea. Seniors Projects have included making documentary films, conducting oral history projects with senior citizens, assisting with the Special Olympics, working for a political campaign, apprenticing in a law office, serving as an apprentice to a craftperson, organizing a neighborhood watch, and working on the construction of a new gym. The projects culminate in a symposium for peers, faculty, administrators, and parents/guardians, as seniors present details of each project.
