On Friday, April 21, the inaugural meeting of the Gorilla Grandparents' Group took place in the Story Center at Oakwood Elementary School.

Principal Margo Long, associate principal Denise Ross, and Secondary School principal William Perkins Tift spoke on the importance of further including grandparents in campus life, as well as their excitement about including Grandparents' experiences and stories in a developing oral history project. After these remarks, the assembled grandparents each shared their stories, making clear a shared desire to be involved with their childrens' children and the Oakwood community at large.

Grandparents are warmly invited to serve hot lunch at both campuses.
  • Special Grandparent lunch dates at the Elementary School are May 23 and May 30 from 11:30am–12:15pm.
  • Hot lunch dates at the Secondary School are May 18 12–1pm and May 19 11:45am–12:45pm.
This is just the beginning but we believe that together our Grandparents can create ideas for an even more meaningful relationship between students, us, and Oakwood School—all in the spirit of fun, bonding, and memory building.
