Study Center FAQ

Q.  Who uses the Study Center?
A.  Since we first opened the Study Center in 2006, many students have made use of this resource. Students from different grade levels go there to work alone, to work with a group of students from a given class, or to consult with the Study Center coordinator.
Q.  Why might a student work in the Study Center?
A.  To learn better techniques for planning an assignment or organizing materials for a project or a test or keeping up with everything that goes on at once in class—in other words, just to develop more effective study habits generally.
Q.  What kinds of help or enrichment are available in the Study Center?
A.  Depending on the need, the Study Center coordinator may help with a study guide or demonstrate a strategy for addressing whatever challenge the student faces. Also, we can provide guidance on ways to approach everything from note-taking to homework, and review content with certain classes.
Q.  Is it only for students with attention weaknesses or learning disabilities?
A.  No. In fact it isn’t dedicated to any one type of student. Just like everything else at Oakwood, the Study Center is about helping individuals maximize their learning in school.
Q.  When do students work in the Study Center?
A.  The Study Center, located in one of the modular buildings on the eastern end of campus, is open during the school day and for one hour after school. Students may come in during their free time, whether it is a regular free period, lunch, or study hall. Teachers can also coordinate time during class for taking tests in the Study Center when necessary. The Study Center coordinator keeps a daily schedule for the Study Center.
Q.  How can a student schedule an appointment to meet with the Study Center coordinator?
A.  It’s easy to stop by and see when the Study Center coordinator has time to meet with a student, or to email Kelly at kghaffary@oakwoodschool.org and let her know when you have free time.
