Christie Guevara

Dear Alumni Families,

The last few months have certainly taken us through a gamut of emotions and experiences, but we continue to take things day by day and do our best to focus on gratitude—for our families, friends, and community.

Oakwood is now in its ninth week of remote learning, and we are adapting and creating many new ways to keep the “old” ways alive through virtual town meetings, Zoom webinars, YouTube Live theatre performances, special guest appearances throughout, and online club meetings. I’ve been working closely with Jaime and the Alumni Council on some great new initiatives. There will also be many other virtual events to come, including Learned Live, a webinar series featuring alumni (see below for details).

We are grateful for the continued support and outreach from our incredible alumni. We will continue to stay in touch with resources and helpful information to keep you informed and updated on what’s going on at Oakwood and within our community.

Please remember to keep sharing your stories and do not hesitate to reach out to me with any questions or needs.

Stay safe and stay connected!

Christie Guevara
Director of Alumni Relations

Welcome to Learned Live!

Welcome to Learned Live - from the same team who brought you Learned, the podcast. This virtual series is an opportunity for us to continue sharing exciting stories about our alumni and incredible Oakwood community. Jeremy Adler ’99 joined us online for cooking & conversation. He showed us how to prepare the perfect shrimp scampi and shared insights about his love of food and how COVID-19 has changed the restaurant industry. If you missed it watch the video HERE.

Next up on Learned Live is “Organizing Your Digital Life” hosted by Michael Gitig ’99, former music and entertainment industry worker turned tech entrepreneur. Tune in for his talk HERE Wednesday, June 3 at 4pm PT / 7pm ET.

If you haven't had a chance to listen to Learned the podcast, you can catch up on all episodes HERE! On Learned, we're looking beyond test scores and college acceptance rates to understand how education can shape the future of our society — and what kind of teaching we need to bring us there.

Oakwood alum Tristan Friedberg Rodman '11, Director of Co-Curricular Programs Ivan Johnson, and Director of Alumni Relations Christie Guevara had candid conversations with educators, parents, and alumni about the educational issues that matter most to them. The episodes in Season 1 spans a wide range of topics — from creativity to entrepreneurship, social justice to mental health, technological change to equity and inclusion at private schools.

Oakwood holds a special place in the hearts of all who have walked its campuses and studied in its buildings. Whether your memories return to your favorite class, a mentoring teacher, your volunteer experiences, or the lifelong friendships that began here, the common threads among Oakwood Alumni and their families are the life-changing experiences had by students. We are so grateful for your continued support and thank you in advance for your generosity!

Join us, and make a gift to Oakwood today!

The Oakwood Alumni Council is the cornerstone of our volunteer leadership and provides opportunities to get involved with our Annual Giving and/or Events Committees. This volunteer committee meets on campus approximately every other month to plan and implement Alumni related initiatives, activities, and events.

We are always looking for alumni who are available to volunteer on an ad hoc basis for fun events. Contact Christie Guevara for more information.
