The 2nd annual K-12 Mental Health Symposium bridges the gap between parents and guardians seeking mental health resources and the professionals who provide them. The evening features 45-minute, expert-led workshops by Deborah Brown, PhD, Matthew Hayutin, MEd, Maria Levine, MD, Amy Schonfeld, PhD, and Aliza Pressman, PhD. Speakers will explore essential topics across developmental stages, including managing executive function and anxiety, proactive parenting strategies, navigating adolescent stress, supporting neurodiversity, and fostering emotional resilience. The goal is twofold: to provide actionable psychoeducation and to facilitate face-to-face connections with providers during a dedicated networking hour.

This event is open to Oakwood K-12 families and local community members.

  • Is This Normal?

Is This Normal? - Normal‑but‑difficult behavior — when to accommodate, when to push, and when to medicate.

Dr. Maria Levine, MD, is a Child, Adolescent, and Adult Psychiatrist who will provide a framework for addressing difficult behaviors, discuss helpful and appropriate accommodations, provide straight answers on medication, and give parents practical language they can use in the moment and at home.
  • Parenting with the Relationship in Mind

Why maintaining healthy relationships with our kids is hard for us, what we can do, and why it is important for our children's connection to us, and themselves. We’ll workshop some recent conflicts or moments of hard parenting - bring in or submit a recent example.

Families could choose from a wide range of expert-led workshops addressing topics across childhood and adolescence, including anxiety, emotional regulation, communication, neurodivergence, technology and gaming, social connection, eating disorders, LGBTQ+ identity, and the transition to college.
